Como nuestra Vinçon, con su diseño anual de bolsas de navidad, es sin duda campeón mundial de la bolsa de tienda, las tiendas de Barcelona lo tienen difícil para competir en este terreno. Pero aún así, hay un par de pequeños comercios que puntúan alto.

La cadena de mini supermercados Superservis utiliza un logo creado en 1961, después de la apertura de su segunda tienda, la de la calle Avinyó (la primera, la de Aribau, es de 1945), que es tan retro que sigue de moda todavía.

Como homenaje al humorista gráfico Cesc, los dueños de la librería francesa Llibreria Jaimes, amigos del artista de toda la vida (le encargaron las participaciones de nacimiento de los nietos del fundador), han rescatado unos dibujos suyos de los años 40. Hechos originalmente para el papel de envoltorio que se utilizaba entonces, ahora decoran las bolsas de compra de la tienda. Retratan los entornos de ambas tiendas, incluyendo los históricos e icónicos elementos de Paseo de Gracia y los autobuses que llevan a la tienda de la calle Drs. Trias i Pujol.

In the bag

Of course our home town Vinçon, with their yearly Christmas bag design, is the hands-down world champion of the shopping bag so stores in Barcelona have a lot to live up to on that front. But there are still a few little guys out there who score big on the bag graphics.

The Superservis chain of mini-groceries uses a logo originally created in 1961, when they opened their second store on Calle Avinyó (the first, on Aribau, opened in 1945,) that’s so retro that it still looks great.

As a tribute to the cartoonist Cesc, the owners of the French bookstore Llibreria Jaimes, longtime friends of the artist (he made the birth announcements for the founder’s grandchildren,) have brought back his drawings from the 1940’s originally made for the paper then used to wrap purchases . Now on their shopping bags, they feature the surroundings of both their stores, including the historic and iconic sights of Paseo de Gracia and the buses that will take you to their store on Drs. Trias i Pujol.

Todos, desde Der Speigel hasta AlterNet o el New York Times hablan de Barcelona, porque es “guay”, es “verde” o es la nueva París (la cuidad, obviamente.) Si estás aquí de visita querrás que lo sepan todos tus amigos. Envíales una postal. Si, todavía existen.

Y si vives aquí por qué no haces algo totalmente inesperado y envías algo por correo a tus amigos. Como diría Diana Vreeland: “Por qué no… usas las postales para dar las gracias cuando te invitan a cenar o a pasar el fin semana en el campo.” Igual ganas puntos y te vuelven a invitar – yo lo he hecho y una vez me llamaron para decirme que era la persona más simpática de Barcelona, cosa que me arregló el día.

Las mejores postales – puedes optar por las vistas de atracciones turísticas o chistes guarros de los quiscos de las Ramblas, o puedes hacer algo divertido.

Everyone from the Der Speigel to AlterNet to the New York Times is talking about Barcelona, because it’s cool, it’s green or it’s the new Paris (the city, obviously.) So if you’re here on a visit you’ll want to make sure to let all your friends know. Send a postcard. Yes, they do still exist.

And if you live here why not do something really unexpected and send something through the mail to your friends. To channel Diana Vreeland, why don’t you … use postcards as thank you notes for dinners, weekends away, etc. Could win you big points and get you invited back – I got a call saying I was the nicest person in Barcelona for doing that and that was quite a boost to my day.

Best postcards – of course you can go for the scenic views and raunchy jokes from the newstands on the Ramblas, or you can be a little creative.
